The Club was founded on December 3rd 1908 in the rooms of Captain Forbes in the High Street, Southampton in the Red Lion Public House.

The Club was affiliated to the Society of Miniture Rifle Clubs. The first President of the Club was Lord Roberts from 1908 till 1915.

Our first Club House and range was on Southampton Common near today's University.

Present disciplines

  • .22 Prone shooting at 20 yards

  • Light Weight sporting Rifle (LWSR)

  • Bench-rest at 20 yards

  • Air Pistol at 20 yards

The Club is affiliated to National Small-bore Rifle Association and the Hampshire Small-Bore Rifle and Pistol Association

Southampton and District members shoot at Bisley in The National Championships and at other venues around the county and country

Please note, we DO NOT do air rifle shooting.

Membership

Membership & Other Fees

Probationary Joining Fee [payable first visit] £3
Junior membership (u16) £1.50

Probationary membership is for six months after which time prospective members will be invited to join the club.

Subscription Fees:

Standard membership £70 (subject to own/club insurance)
Junior membership* £35

Range fees:

Members £3
Visitors/Hire fees £5 (per person)

Guest Day:

A Guest Day is an event involving Guest members which is arranged by the Committee for the purpose of attracting new members to the sport of target shooting and to the Club.

On such occasions Guests may only be permitted to shoot under the personal supervision of a full member.

The Committee may require payment of a fee by all Guests attending a Guest Day, such fee to be notified to potential Guests in advance of the event. A Guest is a person who visits the Club's premises at the invitation of the Committee and who must be either a member of a recognised outside organisation or a person who is already known personally to at least one full member of the Club.

Restrictions:

  • Use of ranges is restricted to probationary and full members only.
  • By law we are required to inform the police that you wish to shoot at the club.
  • The minimum age is 14 for membership - It is a requirement of the club that a Parent or Guardian to be in attendance at range at all times.
